A few months ago, your scouts at Cool Vintage Finds came upon an estate sale of an avid DeGrazia collector. We were able to acquire a number of wonderful DeGrazia Goebel pieces that we are gradually adding to our store inventory. If you're not a collector already yourself, you probably have encountered the artist's work somewhere before. So who is responsible for these colorful and highly collectible ceramic figurines and ornaments? Ettore "Ted" DeGrazia (June 14, 1909 – September 17, 1982) was a multi-talented American-born artist whose Native American-themed paintings and ceramics are beloved around the world. Born in Arizona (when it was still just a territory), DeGrazia was influenced by the landscape and the native people in the Southwest. He traveled to Mexico and trained for a time under Diego Rivera, another important artist of that time. In the 1960s, DeGrazia moved to a property outside of Tuscon where he could focus on his ceramic art. "The Gallery in the Sun" is still in operation today and showcases the artist's prolific and diverse body of work. The figurines and ornaments we have for sale are from the DeGrazia Goebel collection, resulting from the artist's estate partnership with the famous German maker of Hummel figurines. To outsiders, selling online may seem like an impersonal experience. On the contrary! We exchange email with window shoppers and buyers all the time. We also communicate with customers who may have a question or comment about a recent purchase or want to combine shipping on multiple purchases. We've had a few requests from people asking us to watch for a special vintage item. Occasionally something has been damaged in the mail, and even more rare, someone is disappointed or simply would like to take advantage of our 30-day return policy. In all of these scenarios, we exchange one to several emails that make many of our Cool Vintage Finds eBay transactions as "personal" as—or even more than—the checkout line at a busy retail store. The eBay feedback forum is a great way to hear from our customers and for visitors to our store to gain confidence in us as eBay sellers. Not everyone takes the time to leave feedback, but we really appreciate hearing from buyers to gauge how we're doing and find ways to do even better. Reading positive comments is inspiring and reinforces the value of what we do and the things we make available. Comments are refreshed as they come in, and eBay keeps track of positive, neutral and negative comments.. See what people have said about their recent experiences as Cool Vintage Finds Store customers. Your feedback is encouraging in a world that is easily distracted by the newest and shiniest objects. Keep it coming! There's something about angels! I'm always inclined to rescue winged things when I see them because there are so many collectors interested in these fascinating celestial beings. We've recently encountered gorgeous hand painted bisque porcelain cherub ornaments from Italy and meticulously hand-worked wool needlepoint angel pillows. Check out our Pinterest board appropriately called Angels, Cherubs & Seraphim, which includes a collection of related items from our store and other vendors. By the way, we'd love to have you follow us on Pinterest, where we pin under the name Cool Vintage Finds. It's always amazing to see the vast variety of hand sewn, embroidered and knit creations that are out there. Naturally, I'm sentimental about rescuing pieces that represent distant eras. For instance, it's hard for me to pass up even the smallest scraps of crazy quilt such as the one shown below. Surely there are crafters and artisans who are eager to use the patchwork to repair a blanket or create something new. It's deeply satisfying when my compulsion to rescue results in a connection down the road. Look for completed and uncompleted needlework in our Crafts & Hobbies, Needlepoint & Embroidery, and Lovely Linens categories on eBay. |
